Rohit, Kushal power Nepal to narrow win over Canada

Rohit Kumar Paudel’s crafty four wicket-haul trumped Nicholas Kirton’s composed half century as the Host, Nepal, beat Canada at TU International Cricket Ground by seven runs in the first One-Dayer on Thursday.

Electing to bat first, Nepal posted slightly below par 224 runs on board in 50 overs. Canada were marching strongly to the target before collapsing from 174-3 to 217 allout.

Rohit produced the magical bowling spell, returning the figure of 4-22 in his 8.5 overs including two maidens. Lalit Rajbanshi also played a pivotal role in cleaning up the tails, picking two wickets in his 8 overs, giving away 41 runs.

Nicholas and Pargat Singh stitched 79 runs for the third wicket. Nicholas went on to add 60 runs for the fourth wicket with Harsh Thaker (32).

Nicholas top-scored 99-ball 68 leasing with 7 fours. Pargat contributed 50 off 58 balls including 9 boundaries.

Earlier, Kushal Bhurtel smashed 9 fours and a six for his 58-ball 62. Aarif Sheikh scored 38 runs from 50 balls hitting four fours.

Uday Bhagwan picked maximum three wickets for the losing side. He conceded 40 runs in his 8 overs.
