The ICC World Cricket League Division-III winning national cricket team is getting a heroes’ welcome when the team lands in Kathmandu with the trophy.
Nepali squad is returning on Wednesday at 9:00 AM where they will receive a melodious welcome with Nepali traditional band from where they will begin a city tour.
After landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport, the team will ride on a bus which will carry them on a rally that will travel Gaushala, Rato Pool, Maitidevi, Putalisadak, Shahid Gate before ending at the National Sports Council premises in Tripureshwor.
Sports Council member secretary Yubaraj Lama – who will also be at the airport to welcome the team – is supposed to welcome the team at his office along with other officials.
The programme is expected to last more than eight hours.
After the addressing from the member secretary, the team will leave for Singa Durbar to meet Chairman of Interim Election Council of Minister Khil Raj Regmi. The chairman himself has shown his interest in meeting the cricketers.
After the meeting with Regmi, the team will head to Paris Danda where UCPN-Maoists Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal will receive the heroes at his office.
It is also learnt that UCPN-Maoists is felicitating the cricketers with Rs 20,000 each. Each member of the national team is also getting Rs 350,000 from the government.
Nepal had claimed the ICC World Cricket League Division-III title on Sunday beating Uganda in the final at the National Sports Stadium in Hamilton, Bermuda.
After reaching the final of Division-III, Nepal got a historical chance to play the 2015 World Cup through the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The Qualifier is going to be held in New Zealand in January next year where the top two teams will make it to the 2015 World Cup.
The Division-III is Nepal’s third World Cricket League title after winning the Division-IV in Malaysia last year and Division-V title in Kathmandu in 2010.
Nepal also remained unbeaten in all three tournaments they participated under coach Pubudu Dassanayake after the Sri Lanka-born Canadian took the reigns of Nepali cricket in September, 2011 replacing former Sri Lankan batting great Roy Dias.
